Helium mass spectrometry leak detection technology: why is it so important in quality inspection of die cast aluminum parts?

Date:2023-06-07 Views:1719

During the manufacturing process of die-cast aluminum parts, air holes or other defects may occur. If these defects are not discovered and dealt with in a timely manner, they may lead to a decrease in the strength and corrosion resistance of the aluminum parts, and even pose risks during use. In order to ensure the quality and reliability of the aluminum parts, helium leak detection is required.

Helium leak detection is a non-destructive testing method. By placing the aluminum part in a vacuum chamber and spraying it with a helium gas injector, if there are air holes or other defects, the helium gas will escape from the defects and be detected by the detector, thus determining whether there are defects in the aluminum part. Compared with traditional methods such as X-ray detection and ultrasonic detection, helium leak detection has the advantages of high sensitivity, fast detection speed, and good effect, making it a widely used method for quality inspection of aluminum parts at present.

The helium leak detection of die-cast aluminum parts generally consists of the following steps:

Cleaning: Clean the die-cast aluminum parts to be tested to remove dirt, grease, etc. on the surface.

Coating the Detection Agent: Coat a special detection agent on the surface of the aluminum part, usually a powdery substance that is soluble in water or methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). The detection agent can fill or be adsorbed in the pores on the surface of the aluminum part. When gas enters the defect, the detection agent will flow out and form obvious spots or stains.

Preparing the Testing Equipment: Install testing equipment such as a helium gas injector, a vacuum pump, and a detector, and ensure that they are operating normally. It is necessary to maintain the cleanliness and stability of the testing environment.

Conducting the Test: In the vacuum chamber, check whether there are defects such as air holes or cracks on the surface of the aluminum part by spraying helium gas. The tested parts need to be scanned in multiple directions to detect defects more comprehensively.

Analyzing the Test Results: Convert the signals detected by the detector into digital signals, and use computer software to analyze and process them. Under normal circumstances, the absence of a signal means that the aluminum part has no defects, and if there is a signal, further investigation is required.

It should be noted that when conducting helium leak detection, appropriate specifications and operation guidelines should be followed to ensure the reliability of the results. At the same time, after the helium leak detection is completed, the tested parts should be cleaned and treated to prevent contamination and corrosion by residual gas and the detection agent.

The helium mass spectrometer leak detectors produced by Anhui Nuoyi Technology have been widely used in many industries due to their excellent quality and stable performance, and can meet various applications.
